1997 Limina Won't Start
My son tried to start the car yesterday. Nothing! No starter clicking.
Will not try to turn over. Nothing! The battery is good. All the lights and electrics work. Thought it might be the netural safty switch. Held the key to the start position while moving the shift lever. Still nothing. Could it be a bad key? The security light blinks continually with the ignition on. Should it go out after a few seconds? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! |

Re: 1997 Limina Won't Start
sounds like a key chip/ignition switch issue to me. I've never heard of the light blinking steadily. Try a different key, or clean yours off really well. Maybe even jump the starter solonoid, and if it cranks, you can rule out any charging/cranking issues. Then you will know the problem is electrical.

Thanks for the reply. What I meant by the light blinking (security light) is that it doesn't go off after a few seconds like the airbag light. Is it supposed to or does it continue to blink until the car is started? I rarely drive the car so I'm not familiar with the way the lights work. Thanks again! |

Re: 1997 Limina Won't Start
No, the security light is supposed to come on during bulb check (few seconds) then go out. Blinking indicates an issue with the key, the unit in the key cylinder, or the module itself. If the module doesn't detect the correct key, it disables the fuel pump and starting circuit for approximately fifteen minutes. After you clean up the key, wait that long before trying again.

Just got back from the Chevy dealer and the key checked out fine. Looks like it's the key cylinder. I'll have it replaced next week. Thanks for the help!!!
