2.0 Turbo

I have a question on the 2.0 Turbo engines. If you have an exhaust leak somewhere before the catalytic converter, but after the manifold, does that hurt the way the turbo functions?

I'm thinking it would slightly. If it's enough to substantially slow down the exhaust velocity in the rest of the exhaust system, then it will also adversly effect the manifold velocity.
