d16z6 timing

Hey, I have a 1990 honda civic si with a d16z6 vtec motor. I just replaced the distributor and i need to know how to time it. I don't know much about cars so if you can be detailed I would appreciate it. right now it idles around 1500 and does not seem to run that smooth.
Thanks for any help.

Re: d16z6 timing

make sure ur cam gear and crank pulley's tdc are set corectly. start engine let it warm up jum service connector(http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1036186) gget a timing light plug it up correctly and then shoot the light at ur crank pulley and turn the distributor back and forth make until the red mark is lined up with the little pointer thing on the lower timing belt cover(the pointer is barely above the crank pulley looking down behind the drivers side engine mount.

(go buy a helms or chilton manual)
