Hello, 95 s10 blazer-went outside this morning and started my car, i then backed out of my drive and proceeded down the road, i then stopped at the stop sign and my blazer just died, i started it back up and it will not stay running if you take your foot off the gas, the check engine light then came on, also it sounds like hell-anybody got any advice on this.

Re: running problem

First thing I would recommend is getting the code read. Most Autozones have OBD2 code scanners they let you borrow for free. Once you have that code, blazee started a thread with descriptions of all of them: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=425701

Yeah sounds like it could be a list full of problems, Definitley need to do a full matenience check first. This would include:
Fluids, Running temperature (water), Oil temperature, filters, and other things that a mechanic would try to rip you off for. Chances are how its sounding right now because of a common GM problem is the poor alert system. Also check for dummie lights (dash lights) that may or may not be working but if your really just afraid of being under the hood wait one day that you have off and don't drive gather your common household tools check the manual and do a basic engine check of all fluids and tubing. For the tubing check all heater hoses (the black ones) to see if there are any leaks. If there are take the the hose off, and down to autozone and get it replaced for a coulpe bucks. But if your car isn't running without the gas then what you may need to do is to check your fuel lines first if there is a leak or if they are running dry then they need to be replaced immediatley. Now you don't really have any more things that you can check beyond basic checks and if your problems persists then I suggest that you get a free inspection from a cheap garage

gotta go...

Re: running problem

EGR valve has a piece of carbon blocking it open.

Go get a new egr gasket and remove the valve and remove the carbon chunk holding it open.

Then reinstall it with the new gasket (remember to remove the old one), reset the computer by pulling the negative cable off of the battery for 30 minutes and then reattch it and start it.

You will then be fine.
