Question Center Console '88 Blazer

There are two sets of brackets between the front seats of my '88 and I assume that there used to be a center console there. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new/used console? The one I have jammed in between the seats from Target is a bit cheesey.

I don't know if the original was taken out when new seats were put in, in fact I don't even know that the seats have been replaced but the driver's seat has "trailblazer" emblazoned in the leather/vinyl, so I am guessing that they are from a newer s-10.

Also, is anyone aware of a roof rack for the 1st Gen. S-10 Blazer that will be heavy duty enough to support a ladder (little giant - not a full size extension ladder)? For now I've mounted kindorf slotted struts over the existing factory rails, which are flimsy and bend whenever anything of substance is put on them. I need to carry the ladder for my job, as well as occasionally having to tote lengths of PVC pipe (Radon/Soil gas mitigation systems) and really don't like having them hang out the open tail glass window.

Any thoughts/input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Center Console '88 Blazer

There was a center console in your truck, and if you can find a used one it'll have the vinle top pealing off.
I haven't looked but if you can find a new oe that's the way to go. I have a spare used one but it isn't worth the freight cost to send to you (it's in bad shape)

Your roof rack should be fine with a light weight ladder or those pipes that you listed.

Try it, and if it bends I'll send you the replacement bars from my spare (you'd have to pay for the shipping though)
before you bend both bars though I'd better make sure that both of mine are straight though

I've been carrying the little giant around with no problem with the kindorf struts. They're normally used to mount ceiling air handlers/ac units etc...so they are very rigid and strong. Plus, the slots in them make great bungie and strap holes.

The other reason I put them on was that they raise the height of the rack above that of the tailgate spoiler so that larger (longer) items don't rub on it while at the same time providing more clearance in the front of the cab roof.

Thanks for your reply and I'll be sure to let you know if I should need your spares, and how I make out looking for a new oe console.

Re: Center Console '88 Blazer

I've got the same problem with the wing on mine. I want to carry a canue on a camping trip, and I'll probably strap a 2x4 down to keep it off the wing.
That was a lousy design. They should have either made the roof rack higher, or the wing lower

Some Blazers don't have that wing, but I think that it makes the rigs look beter.

I agree they look much better with the wing.

I just purchased a used center console on ebay....$8.50 plus shipping. From the pic it looks pretty good, and I emailed the seller and he said there were no cracks or peeling - guaranteed, so I guess I'll wait and see what I get. For that price I'm not gonna get too worked up. I need it for functionability as much as looks at this point - can't stand driving without an armrest!

If you have an automatic tranny and electronic 4WD, check into a console from a newer model (95-98). Much better console with cupholders, change holder and junk holder instead of the old S-10 console which leave a football sized area up front with nothing but carpet, leaving you to figure out where to store your drinks and other junk. If yours has shift-in-the-floor 4WD, fit may be a problem. Also, the overhead consoles will fit the older models, though it takes some work if you want the compass to work. I replaced that with a blank fill-in panel from the dealer.

This thread is a little old, although that's a good idea about the overhead console. Can you send in a picture of what yours looks like?

I've got shift on the floor 4x4, but the factory setup works for me. I keep my sunglasses besides the shifter, the front of the console holds 1 can of pop nicely, and some change. And in the cubby hole I keep my CD's insurance papers, and my wallet.

What more could I possible want
