99' GMC driving problems

My 99' GMC Jimmy has a problem with driving occassionally. Sometimes around half a tank or lower it will not accelerate and will just die completely. at this point it wont start back for about a hour or until i fill the tank back up with gas. If it does start it only stays on until the gas pedal is pressed and then it dies immediatly. I can tell when it is going to happens because the engies begins to make weird noises and sound funny. Please Help!

You might try replacing the gas cap. A bad cap will cause pressure problems and the symptoms you describe.

My gas cap was pressure checked about two months ago at the DMV. I also put alcohol or engine treatment in my gas when this happens and it allows it to run again.

You might want to replace fuel filter. That could be causing your problem. should be changed every 30,000 or so.

Re: 99' GMC driving problems

If all the help above fails, have the sending unit checked. It may have an intermittent fault that causes it to read half tank when it actually is empty. Also, start using the trip and keep track of your miles. We lost the sending unit in our truck over 2.5 years ago, but we never ran out of gas because we saw the trip miles. So now we fill the tank, reset the trip, and know that just past 300 miles we need to refill.
