Exclamation 96 grand am gt engine light

i have a 96 pontiac grand am gt and the check engine light is on but when its running it flashes and stops and starts again. ive counted the flashes and the are like codes repeativley. are these the codes i need to find out what the problem if so how do i find out what they mean or is my car got a mind of its own. thanks

No the CEL on a GM car will not flash codes. Sometimes the light will flash when the car is misfiring but will usually stay on steady after that. Take the car to Autozone and have them scan the computer. They will give the codes and should tell what to do to try to fix the vehicle. If you find out the codes post here and we should be able to give you some guidance.

Get the codes read. Generally if the light is flashing it is a misfire. You don't want to drive too long with the light flashing----good way to ruin the converter.
