YINS Guys? You must be near Dahntahn Pixburgh! I grew up in the South Hills. I average 27 Hwy and 19-20 City. can sometimes get 500 out of a tank on the highway.

Re: Gas Tank Size/ Mpg

If you are only getting 13 a major tuneup is a good place to start. Stick with Motorcraft platinum - Don't put Bosch plugs in. The motorcrafts are the only thing that has lasted more than 20k in my car. New air filter, clean Maf sensor and Throttle body, Make sure Egr passages are not blocked, and do a fuel filter while you are at it. Pick up a Motorcraft PCV valve while you are at the parts counter. Check all your vacuum hoses, especially the one between the PCV hard line and the intake - famous for clllapsing and getting holes in it. The oil does a number on them.

i cleaned my maf sensor, new air filter, new fuel filter, and new pcv valve, its a motorcraft one. how do you check to see if egr passages r blocked? for the throttle body is there anything special to do for that except just using carb cleaner? i also have to check vacuum lines. also what is a good website for motorcraft parts?

For your EGR passages unbolt the elbow that your throttle body is attached to from the manifold. under the gasket you will see a horseshoe shaped passage that is probably full of guck. easiest to shopvac it out and run a rod down the port to the egr valve.

How are you figuring your MPG? Are you dividing your miles by the tank size or by the number of gallons you used to fill up? To get a number that low, you must be dividing 315 by 20.5 = 15.4. You did not use the whole tank, tho, only what it took to fill up unless you ran it dry. If your fillup took 18 gal, 315/18=17.5 mpg. That sounds a little more reasonable. To check gas mileage, fill tank and reset trip odometer. At next fillup take the miles on the trip meter and divide by the gallons it takes to fill it back up. This is the actual gallons used. The tank size has nothing to do with MPG. If you are getting 17-18 out of it in PGH you are probably ok. PGH is kind of hilly and as I remember, has a traffic light every 50 ft! Not conducive to the best mileage!

I think my manual lists it at 20.5 - for a 95, but probably the same as yours.

Re: Gas Tank Size/ Mpg

well i just cleaned my throttle body, all it takes to remove is 1 anchor bolt and a clamp. the inside of the body had some tarnish built up inside. i could see it run out when i sprayed the injection cleaner inside it. i will check to see if this improves gas mileage then i will get back with yins guys/

Re: Gas Tank Size/ Mpg

on my 93 p71, on a full tank usually will get between 320 and 350 miles on 3/4 tank. i never let it hit below the 1/4 tank mark. unless i drive it hard then it gets about 280.
