Re: Why so much $$$?

any idea how many miles can be squeezed out of a v6 with an auto?

edit: the best 4th in my area is a 97, v6 with 151,xxx miles, auto, but they want like 3 grand for it, im gonna try to get them down to more like 2000 - 2500...

edit2: the best thing i got going in my favor is im gonna be offering cash and the high miles, only prob is im scared it will nickel and dime me to death :S

Well for a v6 i'd try about 1,500-2000 sounds good, anymore is bad because of the fact that it has 151,XXX. Not good, engine is about to kick the bucket. Also people think that because its a Z28 and it's highly wanted that mileage doesnt really matter and it'll have a high resale value when just like 89 said they're optomistic.

Re: Why so much $$$?

anything you could do to try to squeeze more miles out of it before it dies? i dont have a garage or driveway (just cant let it sit untill i save the cash for the motor and with my shity job it will prob take another 3 years just to have enough for a new engine) or even the money for a new engine....

Alright for the mileage it has it SHOULD last about one more year or less, I say around..a couple of months, this is the V6 because thats what I experienced with MY V6 it had about the same miles and lasted me a year and this was under BAD conditions for example it overheated really bad for a while when it was SUMMER so I bet it didnt really help out in its life.

Re: Why so much $$$?

yeah but u had an older engine. hes looking at a 97. im sure he can get more miles out a a 3.8 v6 from 97 thn we get out of our 3.1 and 2.8 from 88 and 92???is it. cause everyone i have talked to that has haad a 2.8 has lost the engine around 140000. there wasnt the same technology. its gotta last more then ours did

I guess, but mine went out around the 200K line and i'll tell ya all it went through. First MASSIVE overheating, the thing was literally running NEEDING a TOTAL tuneup so I bet that wasnt good. Also I ran the HELL out of the thing, most of the time that I spent accelerating was me having the pedal to the floor, so I think my engine went out with a bang because I beat an Eclipse the same night that I last drove it.

Re: Why so much $$$?

i got my 94 v6 with 127,000+ miles on it. Though, at first, my one mechanic said it was shit.....took it to the previous owners mechanic and he said complete opposite...i dunno though. Its in dyer need of a full flush because all they did was flush the radiator and not the block. Reason why is my radiator, though no leaks are apparent, sucks up anti-freeze and turns into a solid..yup thats right, a solid. But otherwise...my car is in good shape and I see it lasting a while, hopefully. As long as you keep up with any repairs it needs and dont kill it, any car you buy should last until ur ready to buy a new motor/car or w/e.

Re: Why so much $$$?

I had a 1990 V6 3.1 engine and it had 185,000 miles on it. It still ran flawlessly and I ran the crap out of that engine everyday. I knew for sure that it would run another 2-3years without any hickups, but that was before I blew it up in a parking lot doing doughnuts. Long story. Oh well, the 350 is almost done.
