brakes and road handling

I have had 2004 (54) CRV for 6 months now. The brakes seem spongy and you have to put a fair amount of presseure on the pedal - honda say they take 2500 miles to bed in but they are ok? They have bedded in a bit and in an emergency stop they seem quite ok. Any one had any issues with their brakes?

Also in the wet the Honda is a bit 'twitchy' with wheel spin and torque steer (maybe i'm a bit too heavy on the gas!)
