Talking New Exhaust...finally

I JUST HAD MY NEW EXHAUST INSTALLED...SWEET. AS WE ALL KNOW IF THE EXHAUST HAS TOO MUCH RESONANCE IN A NORMAL CAR IT WILL KILL YOU IN A C-4 DUE TO THE REAR HATCH DESIGN.

AFTER LOTS OF RESEARCH, BUGGING THE HELL OUT OF EXHAUST DEALERS , AND TALKING TO OTHER C-4 OWNERS I HAD THE FOLLOWING INSTALLED:
- FROM CAT BACK.
- REPLACE FACTORY RESONATOR WITH 2 DYNOMAX BULLET RACING MIFFLERS.
- REPLACED FACTORY MUFFLERS WITH DYNOMAX "CORVETTE" DIRECT REPLACEMENT SUPER-TURBOS.
- USED EXISTING FACTORY PIPE.

THIS GAVE ME ABOUT 20-30 MORE HP AND A NICE MELLOW CRUISING TONE UNLESS I GET ON IT AND THEN IT SOUNDS HEALTHY.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM BOSANNI. MY FATHER BOUGHT A SYSTEM AND TOOK IT OFF THREE DAYS LATER...I DID NOT EVEN WANT IT FOR FREE FROM HIM. IT WAS LIKE DRIVING INSIDE THE MUFFLER!!

Re: New Exhaust...finally

Audible,

Congrats on your new exhaust. I'm glad to hear you like it. If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you for that.

I was wondering because i have an '86 coupe and from the catalytic converter back the whole thing is shot. It has holes everywhere in the pipes, the mufflers have holes, the weld that holds the muffler to the pipe broke so its just kind of rattling around. Its just all bad.

I took it to a local muffler shop and they said they would have to replace all the pipes from the catalytic converter back (a given considering the holes in it), and the mufflers. They said it would cost $600-$700 to replace it. I figured i could get a performace exhaust for around that price.

In yours, or anyones, experience what direction do you think i should go.

Thank you for your help.

-Richard

Well, what I would do is get the 2 1/2 rear Y pipe, might as well, you have to replace it anyway, and a pair of Borla mufflers.

$200 for the Borla 2 1/2 rear Y pipe, and $500 for the Borla Mufflers, but you could get Flowmasters for half the cost. I have the KYB mufflers and I really like the sound. Good luck!!! Ohh, I got those prices @ www.madvet.com

Cool

First off I wanted it to look and sound stock until I decided to nail it.

The Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers were $129.00 each
The Dynomax Bullet mufflers (resonator replacements) were $40.00 each

Labor was only $100.00 because the owner of the shop is a friend.

Check out the above listed products at www.dynomax.com

If you looking for "HOT-ROD" sound I have a 3 day old ,"Bassanni", complete system that sells for $1,100 new that I'll sell for $700.00

Re: New Exhaust...finally

Borla, since they are made of stainless steel, and Dickcasa84 seems to have corrosion issues, I think that would be the best shot, you wont have any problems with them for as long as you own your Vette, and if you do, which I doubt it, they come with a 1,000,000 mile warranty. Very good performance and quality. Just my two cents. Go to www.borla.com

Re: New Exhaust...finally

Thanks for your advice. I will keep it all in perspective when i finally decide to get a new system.

Audible, is that system that you offered me the Bosanni system you mentioned earlier? I am not one that likes "driving inside the muffler." I was originally thinking flowmaster but then i was afraid it might be so loud i wouldn't be able to hear myself sneeze. I would like to have something like what you said you got.. stock until you punch it then a healthy sounding car. If you have not had problems with it as of yet.. i may be looking into the same thing you got..

Re: New Exhaust...finally

Ohh another question for everyone out there... I was wondering if the holes in the exhaust were having an impact on the performance of my car. If so is it minimal and unoticeable or do you think the impact would be noticeable. Not too sure about things because i am not a huge car guy but trying to work my way there. Thanks for all your help.

Well, the people at the Corvette shopp and local car club loved the sound . However, I am an Audiologist(hearing doc)and maybe it's because I know too much about noise/sound . Bassanni is a well known company with an outstanding rep, soooooooooo.

As far as my system, I am happy. My father-in-law had the same thing installed on his.

Re: New Exhaust...finally

Hey audible, Like i said earlier, I am not a huge car guy but i am trying to learn. To be honest i have no clue what a resonator does. I am also confused on how a bullet muffler specified as race use only can act as a replacement for a resonator. was it designed to do that or did you get custom on its use? If i were to take those parts to a muffler shop and tell them would they look at me crazy or would they understand something i am missing? Thank you for helping me further my knowledge on cars.

Resonator is just another type of muffler. Yes, the Bullets are for race only...if you only used them by themselves. I bought my stuff and took it to the muffler shop and we installed it. This way you do not pay the muffler shops mark up, just labor. you will want to call around your area to see who will do it. Some bigger chains will only use their stuff. Most likely you will need to seek out a small private guy.
