Unhappy Power window issues - HELP!

Can anyone advise me as to the problem with my power windows/door locks. I have a 98 windstar, and the passenger side window no longer responds...the dome light does dim when i try the button on the door, so its not a fuse issue.

A number of symtoms/problems appeared at the same time. The power door locks are also behaving strangely. When I go to lock the door all the locks go down, but then 1 second later they pop back up! now I have to push everything down by hand...I also noticed(maybe its always neen that way) that when I open the driver door the warning bell rings even with the lights out and the key out of the ignition. I seem to remember that I did not always do that.

I live in florida, so maybe there is some corrosion somewhere that would account for all these simultaneous problems, but it would be nice to go into the repair shop armed with some knowledge. I love this car! It runs so well, and its got the BIG 6 engine. I was suprised how quick it was for a minivan.

Thanks for your help, Thomas M.

Re: Power window issues - HELP!

On the Taurus, every now and again, the door chime will no shut down. The door doesn't "know" that it's closed. Winstar likely the same. Get some silicone spray (not WD-40 although that will work temporarily) and spray it into the latch and the lock mechanism. Work the door a few times and the problem should go away.

The door lock and then auto unlock is a safety mechanism to ensure that someone doesn't lock themselves out of the car with the engine on. It will happen when the seat "thinks" you are not sitting in it and you lock the door, if I remember correctly.

Thanks Marc, I'll try the door advice. With regards to the locks popping up...any idea how to fix this? They only pop back up when I'm getting out of the car to lock the door and the door is open, not when I'm in the seat driving.

cheers, thanks
