I was really just kidding. I always maintained that pretty much all vehicles have problems regardless of make and model. My 99 has had it's share of troubles but I doubt a Chrysler, Venture or even (dare I say it) an import would have any less problems no matter what propaganda has indicated.

That's pretty much true, especially since they are pretty much built by the same people/companies.
Every vehicle does have problems, but some companies take it to an extreme. When my wife was doing the research mid last year, one of the sites she found had info on the recalls that each minivan had. The best rated minivan, the Honda Odyssey had like 3 recalls, all for weather stripping or some such mundane thing. One of the worst was the Dodge Caravan of some sort. It's recalls included things like "...driver side wheel falls off when turning right..." Seems to me that I would be much happier with the weather stripping not working correctly than a wheel falling off or a transmission exploding under moderate load. Whatever. I like Fords and the Windstar after 01 seems pretty stable so I am glad I bought one. Z.

Why is it that just when an auto manufacturer gets the bugs worked out they discontinue the model?
No complaints with my '98 which was purchased as a lease return with 28,000 miles. Now has 140,000 miles, 2 new sets of tie rods, a brake roter, minor electrical annoyances, and now a blown transmission. Typical for this age and mileage on any vehicle.

Ford still makes this van, they just changed the name. Now it's a "Freestar".
My opinion is . . . The newer the dealership, the better service you'll receive. Fords have been around awhile, and so has you're local dealership . . . Karl

I'd hope that it's better since the 2001 models just seem to be lacking in reliability. It appears that Ford is smart enough to work out the big warranty dollar items and eventually make a better product. Unfortunately, those of us, purchased on the learning curve, are suffering. The Freestar should be much improved. The name change is an old marketing trick to relaunch an existing product as being new when it's really the same old thing w/ many issues worked out.
