prelude
my friend keeps bragin about his friend who has a prelude. the guy claims that he can hit 140mph on stock internals. the only mod is and intake. that sounds like bull shit but i could just be my hate for 4bangers (i don't know if this is the place to post this queston but who cars)

Re: prelude
I am sure it can get to 140, its not like he's going to get there particularly fast. I don't know if it is limited or not though.

Re: prelude
it's gear limited. and a bonestock 5th gen prelude can reach 140mph. when i had my lude i maxed at 151mph according to the speedo. but then the accuracy of the speedo is iffy that high up. but it is capable of 140mph. it creeps up there after 125 or so but it can get up to those levels.

Re: prelude
oh yeah, and let's move this into the prelude forum as there hasn't been any comparison to other cars.
it's cool to hate 4 bangers but just to forewarn you that you may and probably will have other members disagree with you. let's keep a level-headed discussion. that means everyone who participates in this thread. |

Re: prelude
Yeah they can definitely get up there, like everyone else said though, it's not gonna fly up to those speeds. As far as hating 4 bangers, to each his own, but I continue to ask why? Do you hate 4 bangers, or is it the stupid ricer stereotype that we Honda drivers get slapped on us? And I wouldn't hate a particular type of engine either, I'd hate the car it was in. And not all 4 bangers are slow...there is a replacement for displacement...it's called forced induction.

Re: prelude
yea i should have been more specific. when i say 4banger i mean ricers. (big wings and can mufflers)
i have to admit there are tons out there that are fast, but all the ones in my town have no performance upgrades just visuals. Iam not trying to start a big argument, iam just stating my opinion.

Had my 92 Prelude Si clocked while I was down at Road Atlanta a few years back (A friend of mines dad works as an official for the SCCA there and let us sneak out onto the track) I topped out at 153mph, all I had done at that point was the header, air intake, exhaust sans cat., and fuel management.

That was while I was past the red line, sitting at about 8000 rpms, on the red I was hitting 146-147

Quote:
Couldn't have put it better myself. A 4 cylinder back in the 60s would be a joke. Back then, the only practical way to get power was to get a bigger engine. These days, this is just not the case. I drove a Neon SRT-4 the other day that had Mopar Stage-2 mods done to it from the factory. They're pretty fast to begin with, but this thing was just stupid fast. My girlfriend quickly began to regret riding with me as she rapidly began to feel motion sick...and she doesn't even get motion sickness. I used to own a 5th gen prelude. It wasn't an SH and it was an auto trans. It was pretty damn fast till you hit 4th gear at about 90-something. After that, it struggled. I don't think the auto would have gotten to 140 very quickly, but it might have been able to do it. I don't doubt for a second that a manual could do it. Dissing all 4-cylinder cars is just stupid these days...I'd put that SRT-4 I drove the other day up against just about anything you'd like...

Re: prelude
my 2 cents. When I first bought my H23, 1993, Prelude I was succesfull in taching out the speedo. It took a little bit past 4th gear to climb (when it was tock), but it did it no problem. Also I hate when people are like ricer this and that and stang boy this and that. I grew up loVin fox chassis (mainly 1993 Stangs). I would get one if I could afford another vehicle. For those of us who saidly {lol} dont have a huge wing and a annoying muffler to give us 40+whp. Hate on the kids with that sh*T not us. B/c there just might be a whistle comming from the hood that will stop your steed.
