Winter tires - recommendations?
I'm driving a 2005 325xi and was wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations for winter tires. My parents both drive AWD Volvos equipped with Gislaveds which perform incredibly well on snow and ice. Looking for any other opinions (first-hand, preferably) that are out there...

Re: Winter tires - recommendations?
Why are you worried about this durring this time of year? Snow tires are noisy as hell durring the summer. you dont get the performance as you dow ith other tires. There really is no perfect snow tire that someone can recomend you. The more $ the more likely its a better tire. Try for some perillies or michelins, good year also.

You already have AWD
Do you still need snow tires on your AWD vehicle?
If so, not snow tires but I have heard Cooper tire makes a nice winter tires that are reasonably priced and perform well in snow and ice. But, as you know, nothing beats Blizzaks or Veredestein. Gislaved is not bad but pricey. As you know, snow tires have softer rubber compound and if you run that year round, you will not get much out of the tire since it wears out quickly. Hope this helps. |

Re: Winter tires - recommendations?
Blizzaks seem to be the most recommended among BMW owners. Normally, I would say the AWD Beemers do just fine with all season radials, but I noticed you're from Winnipeg, so I understand your concern.

Re: Re: Winter tires - recommendations?
Ok, thanks for the comments. I'm not looking to put the winter set on until they're required, which is typically sometime in November.
While the AWD shoots you off the line, it offers no advantage over 2WD when it comes to braking, which is why I'll be getting the winter set. We have lots of ice-covered roads up here in the winter. As for noise, I guess it depends on the tire model & manufacturer -- my brother's summer tires are far noisier than the winter set that he runs on his Acura. Ted |

Re: Winter tires - recommendations?
Not trying to be snooty but beemer is a bike and bimmer is a car.
I have run nothing but Blizzaks since 99 and they perform very well. I currently drive an 04xi. |
