Cool camshaft position sensor

my check engine light is on and the reason im getting is code P0341 - camshaft position sensor. i have the 98 Grand Prix GTP supercharged 3.8. i bought the part for 30 bucks but im having trouble finding it. i have the chiltons manual but it covers so many cars that some parts arent even helpful. where can i find the CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR on my car?

Re: camshaft position sensor

it's located in the timing cover, just slightly above and behind the harmoic balancer (at about 10 o'clock). It's held in place by one bolt.

Here's a pic from a GTP to help you out with the harmonic balancer removed. As the previous poster mentioned its around 10 - 11 o'clock. The opposing sensor at 2 o'clock is the crankshaft position sensor (CKPS). You'll have to pull the harmonic balancer and after that it will be obscured by a plastic cover which has to be removed next.

Also check the condition of the wiring, especially the electrical connector plugs to both sensors and clean with electrical contact cleaner after putting in the new camshaft sensor. Good luck!

Nice Jim. A picture is worth a thousand words, however,.......????? That pic doesn't show the camshaft position sensor.

Are you putting that new service manual to good use? BTW - keep up the good work.
