Angry Massive OIL Leak

Was driving on my way home when I noticed the oil pressure starting to drop. I pulled over checked oil and it was reading add 1qtr. I added 1 qtr then drove 1 mile and the oil pressure light came on. Checked oil again and zip, No oil almost. Checked under the car, and had a big puddle of fresh oil, and a trail to where I parked. Checked oil bolt and filter and no oil appears from there, oil pan seal looked dry, valve covers look good around sides. So then I started engine while car was on a jack and you could just see oil spraying on what looks like to be the transaxle & cv boot meets. It was dark so I left car at the gas station. I will have another look tommorw.

Car 93 Lesabre / Any ideas?

Re: Massive OIL Leak

Some possibilities (since you mention that the filter looks OK):

- oil pressure sender (this is the most likely source, I've heard of these going bad before and leaking huge quantities of oil very quickly)
- oil filter adapter to timing cover gasket
- timing cover to engine block gasket

Re: Massive OIL Leak

Cool Massive OIL Leak FIXED

Massive OIL Leak fixed!

I got a good look at the problem today.
Started car and OIL started spraying out of my Oil Pressure Switch / Sender Wiring harness!!!!

Yes, oil was comming out of the swtich where the wires plug into the unit, spraying the wires with oil !!

It probrably sprayed out 4 qtrs in less than 5 mins!!!!
This thing has alot of pressure on the other side of this switch.

I dont know much about this switch, except it comes in 2 types.
1 type is if you have the oil light and other type is if you have the guage in your instrument cluster like I do.

I bought a new Oil Pressure Switch for less than 20$, installed it. And NO more oil leaks.
Went ahead and did an oil change today also.
3800 is still quite & purrring...

I never seen this problem before. So I hope this helps someone in the future.

Thank GOD it was nothing major like an engine seal or something!!!!

Thanks for all the help guys!
