Questions: 65-73 Porsche 911 restoration etc

Ok, I really have my eyes set on restoring a 1965-1973 porsche 911, more preferably the Targa, a 911S Targa. For anyone with experiences with such cars: how are they on reliability and what's the average price range of parts? Are they high, medium, low, costly etc? I was told that they can be made into practical everyday cars and if I do buy and or restore an early 911, it would be my everyday car. Are they worthy for being everyday cars like, reliability and maintinence wise? Are they expensive to maintain? What should I look for in buying a 911, like what should it be like if I dont want to drain my pockets but want to restore it fully yet still spend the average amount of money everyone else does to make it run like an everyday car without fault? It will be hard, I know that....But instead of buying and restoring one, is it better if I just get one fully restored rather than go through the trouble of restoring it myself when I can get a fully restored one for the same price? Is it the case with the 911?

Help greatly appreciated. Thanks
