So we have Canada wanting to marry gays and most of Americans not wanting to marry gays. Both of these countries are side by side and it looks like no good can come of this.

I believe that would be a "Civil Union" if I remember correctly.

But if you tell a given gay couple that they'll likely ask if you want them to sign up for second class citizenship as well.

I don't understand how no good can come of this. If you hate gays, and hate that they have the right to marry, then don't move to Canada. If you love gay marriage, move to Canada, it presents no problem to anyone, unless you hate gays and live in Canada - then you'd be better off in the U.S.A. anyway. Think of it this way, married gays will be in Canada, and the people who can't stand that people should be able to have the freedom to do what they want can move to the U.S.

According to the article Canada only has 34000 gay and lesbian couples. pffftt, thats 1/32 the size of the ones living in NYC.

Recently I seen a group of Christians gathered on a busy corner holding "homosexuality is sin" banners. Isn't divorce also a sin? Why don't they ever protest about that?

All the power to them. As long as it's not being shoved down my throat, or made a spectacle of purely for publicity purposes (I hate that kind of crap with a passion) gays should have the same right to marry as the rest of us. That doesn't mean I'm totally on the bandwagon in some respects: I've always thought -- and have read articles reinforcing this -- that there are some very important aspects of a child's life that definately benefit from a daddy (or a mommy) as opposed to two daddy's or two mommy's. But then again this whole "children raised by a same-sex couple" thing is a relatively new concept.

Marriage is marriage: richer or poorer, sickness and in health, 'till death do you part, etc. If it's a happy marriage, it's fine in my book (hell, one in every two heterosexual marriages in this country apparently can't even claim even that much -- yes, my parents DID get divorced over a decade ago.)

It's one thing to disagree with the idea of gays, that's perfectly fine if it's part of your belief system. It's another thing to be an asshole about it. Have you seen those ignorant bible-thumpers on TV trolling around carrying gay-bashing signs outside that soldier's funeral in Mass because they think American gay-tolerance resulted in Sept. 11th and continuing casualties in Iraq? Ridiculous. They aren't making a very good case for their god.

I don't have a big problem with gay marriage. I don't support it either.

I remember this old colony from a looong time ago in english that didn't believe in sex. They didn't last ong. I thinks thats what most people have a problem with. The fact that you can't continue life naturally. No natural reproduction or anything like it. And children thinking its ok to like another of the same sex "my parents (or in this case guardians) do"

Its not about using the term wedding. A wedding is a holy thing, it symbolizes the bond between a man and a woman. Its not about them not having the right to get married. Fuck if i care what they do, let them have all the legal rights that go along with a wedding. I dont give a shit, but they can have their own thing. A wedding ceremony in a church was NEVER meant for 2 men or women. It has always, for thousands of years been for a man and a woman. If you want to have a wedding in a church, you should follow the laws of the church. But since a wedding is between a man and a woman. That is against the laws of the church. Why should we change the rules after thousands of years? Just because they cry about it?


Its actually hypocrisy now that i think about it, when religion is inconvenient, politicians say we must seperate religion and state. Yet, whenever they want, they have the right to make the rules of who can be married in a church?! That is up to the church, not the government.


To sum it up. Gay people can have all the rights they want, i dont care. I'm not bashing on them. They can have every single right that comes along with a wedding, plus some. But they can also have their own ceremony. Weddings were never meant for them, so why cant they have their own thing?
