Olds Cutlass Supream International
i got a problem with my car it was sitting in a storage for about 12 months and just got it back the other day and i started it up today around noon and everything was running fine and i just started it now to go out and something in the passanger side by the altanator is making a whineing sound i dont know if it is the altanator or what but its freaking me out because i just had this engine installed 2 yrs ago if someone can help me out and lemme know what the problem is that would be great

Hi. I've got a 1990 Olds Cutlass Ciera 3.3L V6, I also experienced a whining sound from that side of the engine----turned out to be the alternator was shot. Also keep in mind the water pump will "squeel" when the bearings are shot. Hope this helps?

Was the battery in storage for 12 months too? Does turning on the headlights make it worse? Some alternators whine until the battery gets halfway recharged. Some actually slip on the belt and the belt will squeal for the same reasons.

no the battery was dead i got a new one and it doesnt get worse it sounds like crap the whole time the car is running and when u start the car a couple times after a bit the battery is dead

Sounds like the alternator is shot. Get a voltmeter and check if it's charging when running. Should be around 14v.
