AC/Alternator Problem

97 cavalier...Ok my air condioner doesn't work so i took it to goodyear (for 24 dollars) to see if they could tell me what's wrong with it and how much it would cost to get it fixed. I had previously tried adding more freon because it was blowing air out warm but that didn't work. The people a goodyear told me that my car was not with the original air conditioner/compressor and that the compressor was not working properly. This was going to cost around 700 to fix so I told them I would just deal with it and was not going to get it fixed on such an old car that wasn't even worth that much money.

So later on that day, my lights all come on on the dashboard and I barely make it to sears autocenter before it turns off. I know the battery is ok because that was just replaced so my next step is the alternator. Sears looked under my hood and noticed that one of the plugs for the AC were broken (and also said that it had been done recently because they were so clean). But regardless of this, I had to get my car working again so I had to purchase a new alternator and the labor to put it in (for 280 dollars).

So my question is, does anyone know...If there is anyway possible that the broken AC cord could have affected the alternator?

Re: AC/Alternator Problem

Chances are they damaged more than that. I would seek out the person that did that to your car.
