oil from top of the motor to carburator
HI everyone, I'm sorry to bother you ... but those guys from Toyota forum are kind of ugly, they or doesn't know or they don't like to answer me.... so it goes...I think this is kind of basic mechanical question...
I got a problem with my corolla. It's has only 50 K miles. Year 1997. It's carburated.. I have noticed that there's a pipe that goes from the engine top to the botton of the carubrator dish (you know, where you place the air filter). Well, in my car it seems like this pipe runs all the motor oil trough it. Of course, when conected you can see a lot of grey smoke exausting my car. Of course, the air filter is brown filled with oil, dificulting the car to start and to run. I disnconected it, andd then did a small run, and then i found out that all under the hood was impregnated with tons of oil. So I wonder, which is the cause and what i may do in order to fix it. thanks a lot... EARP.. owner of a Blazer & Corolla. |

Re: oil from top of the motor to carburator
That might be from the PCV system which relieves built up crankcase pressure. It's normal for this to have some oil in it but too much could be a sign of blowby from worn piston rings. I recommend you get a compression and leakdown test done on your engine.

This is blow by coming through your PCV system.
Tell me this, is your oil over filled?

thanks guys...
No, the casr was not over filled with oil.. as a matter of fact when the spill under the hood took place the car just had like 2.5 liters out of 4. so basically, it was running with so few oil... So... based on so few miles run, do you really think it's a problem of worn piston rings? or it's more like some valve problem or maybe some stucked worn oil in the oil system ? thanks again... |

Re: oil from top of the motor to carburator
change your oil!!! patrolium base starts to break down after 3 months (hints the 3 month/3k miles(5k km for your kanuks)) and yes you have blowby, and most likly worn out piston rings if the moter gets caked with oil after a few miles run, but worn out rings at 50k is very unlikly... but being that low on oil it is verry possible

Oil does NOT break down after 3 months so get that out of your head. Earp, Start using the proper oil grade for your motor. 15w40 in a motor designed for 10w or 5w30 is really stupid and increases startup damage and results in too high of oil pressure. Also, consult your manual as to how much oil goes in with a filter change. And start using a 10w30 would ya. Castrol GTX is a fine oil for your truck.

is there any way this same effect could be happening because some dirt stuck on the oil path?
thanks.. |

Re: oil from top of the motor to carburator
Sure. If dirt clogged an oil line you might have a cylinder that isn't getting properly oiled and caused premature wear on the rings. Once that happens you get the blowby and you get your symptoms.
