1997 Won't start, cranks and has fuel

Help!! I have a 1997 Explorer XLT that cranks but won't start. It's happened before in the past and seems to be a problem after running the AC. Fuel pump hums, has gas from pressure valve, and I can smell gas when trying to start it. Any help would definitely be appreciated.

Re: 1997 Won't start, cranks and has fuel

I checked the spark plugs, looked like they were the ones from the showroom. They were burnt up badly. I've had this Explorer for 6 months and thought it had been well cared for. Replaced plugs and wires. No start. Replaced ignition coil. No start.
Going to bed, another day riding the bus!

Re: 1997 Won't start, cranks and has fuel

way2old a buddy of mine said you were good and this time you hit the nail on the head. The crank sensor was bad. The guy at the shop that I ended up towing it to, said that when he first checked it out, that there was no fuel pressure. So he jumped the relay and had pressure. Performed diagnostic on it and found faulty crank sensor. Baffled though because of no pressure at the get go. Afraid fuel pump might also be going out. He said that the computer would sense the sensor being bad and would not allow the fuel pump to operate. Seems like good mechanics to me. Murdock @ sons in Garland. Got by with 126.00 For diagnostic, part, @ labor. What do you think? Thanks

vehicle running is always good. Price seems OK. Don't know labor rate where you are. Thanks for the fix post. That is our "pay" for trying to help.
