92 SSEI loud shuttering noise...

I think it's a 1992...maybe a 91 or 93... it's the super charged edition... (my Dad's car)

He let me use it for a couple weeks, and just my luck, it starts doing this when I have it...
At first, I thought the shuttering noise was a loose pulley, because that's what it sounds like... and it only does it at low RPM's... if I get to a stop light and press hard on the brake and idle it at 1500-2000RPMs, then I don't hear the noise...

I opened the hood and checked the pullies, but I didnt see any that were rattling...

Any ideas? I'll video tape it soon, so you can hear and see it... I just need to get this fixed before giving the car back to him...

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: 92 SSEI loud shuttering noise...

Here's some more info:

I started it up today (hasnt been driven in about 2 weeks) --sire enough, the noise was still there... got on the interstate for about 15 minutes... like I said, you don't hear it when you have ur foot on the gas and the car is moving...

Got off the interstate, and came to a stop-light. Had the windows rolled up and the AC on full blast. I didn't hear the noise. Next stop light, still didn't hear it... Rolled down the windows, didn't hear it...
But when I turned the AC off, sure enough, it came back... it's a load "clanking" noise... i swear it sounds like a pully that loose... And wouldn't that make sense? Isnt the AC run by pullies too? --so when I had the AC on full blast, would that make the loose pully spin faster (like when I step on the gas) and thus making the noise stop?

PLEASE HELP! I'm gonna ask around for a good mechanic, but so far, everyone I've been to has screwed me over BIG TIME. Last mechanic gave me 2 bad transmissions for my other car... but still insists there's nothing wrong with it...

Thanks for all the help guys,
Andrew

P.S. Would it help if I made a short video clip of it, and then have a friend step on the gas to show thast the sound goes away?

Re: 92 SSEI loud shuttering noise...

Well, I took it in for an overview, and the shop took off all the pullies, and belts and made sure those were tight...

Basically, they found out that it was coming from the supercharger... They said there's probably some sort of bearings in there.. maybe just the bearings need replacing, maybe the whole super charger needs to be replaced....

What is ya'll opinion on this... Anyone know about these superchragers?
