Problems with my 1992 XLT

Hi, I have a 1992 Explorer XLT 4.0 V6 with a few problems...

1. Neither of the rear doors will open from the inside or out. One door has the handle in the fully open position on the inside.

2. Rear hatch will not open, just the window.

3. The A/C just blows air not cold at all. I can hear the A/C clutch going while I was sitting i the driveway testing it. (Not the biggest problem, I can deal without it)

Any and all help is highly appreciated and any more info that is needed can be gotten.

Thanks!

I had the same problem with my doors and tailgate when I first got my 93 explorer. What happened was that the bolts that the door and tailgate lock onto where not lubricated. I opened them by just trying the door handles and pulling at the door. It took awhile but they eventually came open. I then sprayed the door jamb bolts with wd40. I hope that what I said helps. otherwise someone else might have better advice.

I have the same problems on my back doors, wouldn't open from inside or out. What happens is the bars inside that connect the handles to the door opening mechanism are crap and bend after a while. You need to take the inside panel off, take out the bars (they're connected to the inside handles), bend them into shape, and reinforce them (try welding another bar or 2 to them). As for outside handles, it's most likely a broken plastic clip that connects the bar for the outside handle to the door mechanism, you can pick up a replacement at your local auto parts store. It's a bitch to reach back there and change it though.

The rear hatch is likely somewhere along the same lines, I can't help you there.

My A/C also blows hot air only. I bought an A/C recharge kit ($20 with hose and meter), but I have no idea where to attach it (I have a post right below yours on it). I have the exact same year as you do as well. There are 2 valves I can find (the tire-valve looking type, which I assume is what they connect to). One is in the back left corner of the engine compartment and is right next to the air filter, the other is in the front right and goes somewhere around the radiator. I'm not sure which it is though, or if I can even use R134a on my car. There is an adapter kit to make any old style connections work with the new A/C kits, though, so I might have to exchange the kit I have and go get that one. I really need to get a chilton or a haynes, if you have one please look it up for me. Heck, I don't even know where the A/C compressor is!
