Picked up a GN

These things look badass in black, so that's what I'm gonna make it.

Only after taking pictures did I realize that it had a kinked A-Pillar but I'll just try to fix it... The plastic is extremely soft and crappy, and it seems pretty bad even for a Revell kit.

This will go hand in hand with my Supra build

I have the kit, and mine is fine... I actually think it's one of Revell's betters. Maybe you got a bad one from the lot?

Looking foward to progress!

Re: Picked up a GN

i've been meaning to pick one of these up. i love the grand national. ultimate sleeper car. all the young pups dont know what they are. immagine, all the little ricers thinking their cars are fast, even some of hte younger crowd with the muscle cars, getting blown away by an old boxy turbo car........comes back to reality. yeah, been meaning to pick one of these up. lol

GN's ROCK! They are a BLAST to drive. I call 'em "Granny Nationals" because they look like gramma cars.

I've built 1 1/2 of these kits (the second was a resto of a friend's attempt, I got stalled on the paint part-he painted it with a brush and unthinned enamels) and I think they all have the A-piller problem. I think this kit has an incredibly detailed interior, that was my favorite part about the build.

If you want to be dead-on realistic, I can give you some pointers! IE GN's have a factory installed rock guard, kinda like Rhinoliner, about halfway below break on the door. You can achieve this by allowing some overspray and/or not polishing this area.

Some interesting GN trivia....The GN platform was cancelled after the 1987 model year because, in a track test against the Corvette, the GNX outperformed the Vette on all counts. This was unacceptable, because the Corvette was GM's flagship and therefore HAD to be the best thing GM made. GN's were offered from 84 to 87; the 86-87 model years are the most desireable because they're factory intercooled. They were also only offered in black.

Grand Nationals are the $hit!

The thing I love about the GN (1:1) is that everyone I see is always in awesome condition.

Re: Picked up a GN

Well, the 80's Vettes left a lot to be desired. In fact, I think the 82's had less than 200 HP or something rediculous like that. In 92 they went to the LT-1, and that was a huge step up; then in 97, they introduced the LS-1 and the rest is history. 500 HP worth of history.

I've come close to buying a GN. Trouble is, they're maintenance queens. And mods are addicting.

Re: Picked up a GN

i would love to have a GN. if i had the money i'd get one. they were trying to revive the GNX, Camaro, and a new GTO. this would have been awesome. but apparently these days, GM couldn't load the trunk of a car with cash and sell it. they killed the whole Zeta platform, which is what the GNX, Camaro, and GTO were going to be based off of in 07 i believe. if the production camaro held true to the renderings floating around, i was going to sell my soul to a horned man to get one. lol. but, they just cut, 8000 managerial type positions within GM. they have got to do something about the funky styling of most of their vehicles. the trucks aren't that bad. but the cars....just not diggin it. im a bow tie man through and through. but i may never get the chance to own a brand new camaro. does this mean that we wont see the revival of the camaro and the GNX....no, but it definately pushes back any production date to one unknown. very sad news for the auto enthusiast. oh well.....*steps off soap box* i'll have to settle for 1/24
