airbag light reset?
I disconnected the airbag on my 93 V6 Camry to adjust the steering wheel and now the light stays on. I've tried the alternating grounding of the diagnostic terminals but it doesn't help. It does flash 4-1 when connected. Dealer wants $75 to reset it. They said the airbag system has to be re-initiated and the airbag is currently disabled. Is this true? What should you do if you need to take off the steering wheel. Thanks.

Re: airbag light reset?
Under steering wheel removal in the '94 Camry maintenance manual, it says:
"NOTICE: If the airbag connector is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, diagnostic trouble codes will be recorded." In addition, there are no instructions for canceling these codes, particularly, no warning about having disabled the airbag - either in the removal or installation instuctions. There is also a Caution that says that work should not be started until after 90 seconds after the negative battery terminal is disconnected. To me, this means the codes only warn that it has been disconnected, and not that it is still disabled. See pages SR-6 and SR-7 in the '94 maintenance manual: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=425159 Take it for what it's worth... You should probably play it safe and do as they say unless you get confirmation to the opposite.
