Well I won't go through all the tiny details because you can search and find those fairly easily. Here is a good rundown of most of the cosmetic changes through the MKIII years. All of the actual chassis from 86.5-92 are the exact same, the differences being bolt on or bolt on with some very minor work. Pretty much all of the changes happened in mid 1989. The 7M-GTE was introduced in 1987. -88 got the lego brick lights, those changed to the three piece bar in 89+. -88 has metal backed body trim that tends to rust out (seen as small lumps/buldges from the outside) while the 89+ has nice plastic trim. The front bumper, turn signals, and fog lights also changed for 89+. The turbo 87-88 has the 3.909 LSD differential while the 89-92 turbo has the 3.73 LSD, all N/A's have 4.3 differentials (sport package got an 4.3 LSD). There were also a few interior upgrades in 1989 and more the following years. Overall if you are going to get a car, especially to swap in a 1jz you should look for an 89+ making the swap that much easier. As for the JZA70 we didn't get that in the US, we never got anything good from Toyota which explains why all you can find are 7M's because that is all we got. If you want a 1jz you will have to buy a halfcut and do the swap like everyone else. The clip is usually $2000-3500 depending where you go and how good it is. If you need an importer you can go to jarcoinc.com , it is pretty much agreed that they are the best. There are alot of others though, so don't be afraid to look around. There are even some members on supraforums who import halfcuts for a reasonable price.

Re: 87-92

What are you talking about? Import the second half? You're not going to be welding anything, you get the halfcut so you have all the parts and wiring you need to swap the 1jz into your MA70.

Re: 87-92

Well it is just swapping parts but there is also some wiring involved, and depending on your abilities you might have to buy a 1jz harness and jumper that has already been modifed/extended. As for welding two cars together I know I wouldn't ever trust my life to that and ride in one, would you? If it isn't done perfectly and reinforced properly it could crack and break later. Good luck if you decide to do the swap. You will want to visit the 1jz MKIII section on supraforums if you haven't already, tons of good info on the swap there.
