In progress - Honda S2000
Four cars already on the shelf, aiming for my fifth model now, and without delay, I will post my progress pictures. Tamiya Honda S2000, going to be yellow.
First prepared all the parts, test fitted to ensure good fitment, seems to be a decent kit, not like the Tamiya SLK that was after build up a little high with the ride height. ![]() Next up is the fully painted S2000 body – just love the shape of these cars. Looks superb in yellow, and for those who read my “how many coats of yellow required” posting will know just how much pain I had to get this looking so good. Needs polish and wax, but the body is nicely baking in the sun at the moment. ![]() Interior is mostly satin black from halfords. Door panels and seats will have red highlights and then painted sides with semi gloss, to simulate leather. Still not sure about that, it could change. I will this time, and I say it every time try and flock some carpet. ![]() Painted the roof satin black, looks like a good match for a soft top, and yep, it is actually the hard top kit I’m building, but I got it cheap of ebay - £8.20 and I like the car with a black roof. Looks OK ish, so I’m not too fussed. ![]() I had the choice of gold plated wheels in the kit or just plain chrome. Going with the chrome, the gold with yellow body will look all wrong. Also, the roof has a slight texture, I did this by spraying the paint from a good distance, to simulate the texture of a soft top. ![]() Many small parts have been sprayed, but a lot of detailing left to go. Done the door panels, yet still not sure. I’ll do the rest of the seats, and then test fit with the yellow body. If it looks wrong, then DOT4 and restart the seats and door panels. ![]() Under chassis has been sprayed the same as the car, all parts at the moment are test fitted, and used a metal type of paint – aclad or something, really thin paint, and looks GREAT for the engine block. Lots to do still, such as the black, washes etc. ![]() And that is it for now. This is 9 days work, and for me, this is not bad at all. Comments as always welcome. |

Thanks all. Really pleased to get so many great replies. Must be doing something right
Might be a small slow down though, as I've not got any black flocking. I ordered shades of grey and beige but no black. So need to order some from detail masters in the states. Also want to see if I can find something to make some seatbelts. Glad you all liked the roof. Looks a lot better in black. Didn't even try it out with yellow, I knew black would look the business. Not looking forward to masking the under chassis, looks to be a little complicated. Had problems with the engine block, but that fuel tank is hard to put tape round, so will be hard to burnish down correctly.. |

Done some more on the Honda S2000. The more I build this kit, the more I want the real car. Anyhow, some more progress pictures.
Some early test /dry fitting of parts, and this kit doesn’t disappoint with the fitment. All falls together very easily. ![]() Sprayed the exhaust parts with a mix of X11 chrome silver and X10 gun metal, to get a base cost to work with. I then used Tamiya Enamel Bronze (and yes, Tamiya Enamels are fantastic for brush painting. They stay wet for ages, and afford you much more time to play with the paint) and picked out some parts with X10 enamel gun metal, and metal cote silver. Dry brushed the whole thing with X11 Chrome silver, and this is the exhaust. ![]() Masking done, all prepared for the black trim on the under chassis. This was a total nightmare for me, and in the end I had to ask for some help on this forum. 360spider came to the rescue, and give me enough ideas to rip of the old mess I had done with masking tape and liquid maskol and try again.. I scrapped the idea of using maskol, and put the tape on using tooth picks, tweezers, a VERY Sharpe hobby knife and lots of time; much better this time with the advice I was given. However I was worried it would still leak or bleed through all the joins in the tape. So used maskol to cover the joins. ![]() After the total nightmare of masking was over, I sprayed the over side of the part flat black first. This has brought the yellow deepness in, which I’m glad about, and I then used semi gloss black for the trim detailing with my airbrush on a low PSI. After 4 mist, and a final cover coat, I pulled the tape off 40 minutes later. Now my masking SUCKS..!! But this wasn’t that bad for me, and it was my first REAL masking job for an under chassis. ![]() All dry fitted and not looking too bad.. Considering this is only my fifth model in 15 years I’m OK with this one. It could be better, the masking was not of a very high caliber, some detail painting is not that great when compared to some of the builds on here, but overall I’m getting there. And this is it really. Lots more to do yet, so I’ll keep working away on this kit until it’s done. |

Re: In progress - Honda S2000
Looks GREAT! Your undercarriage looks just immaculate, all your masking was well worth it. The whole car is wonderful so far - great work!
