92 Laser starts/idles at 500rpm/stalls????

Hi Everyone... I'm new to this and not very experienced with cars but I'm trying to learn what might be wrong with my car so I don't get screwed by my mechanic...

I have a 92 Laser RS 5 speed AWD Turbo. A week ago, I started my car but instead of it idleing around 1000rpm like usual... the rpms teetered between 500rpm and 700rpm and then stalled after about 5 seconds. Now once I start my car, I have to keep on the gas so my rpms are around 2000 just to get going and everytime I slow down too much or come to a stop, I stall and I've gotta start my car again. A vicious cycle


I don't even know where to start. One mechanic says its not my fuel pump or filter. My check engine light is not on, so I'm having a hard time finding someone around here with a good enough diagnostics to see if they can figure it out. I tried reading through past posts about idle problems and stuff, but had to search for all these abbreviations MAF ICS TPS... If anyone has had similar problems and would like to share their solutions (in words I may understand ) I'd appreciate it.

my turbo laser does this also, when i start it up sometimes it barely fires then dies. if i go to a stop light it will drop idle and die. I heard it could be a bent valve or 2. urs could just be a worse case scenario

Could be your Idle Air Control Module, or something more internal. Could even be your Throttle Body Positioning censor or the set screw could of backed off.
