4TH Gen boasting 500+HP

Me and my dad are undergoing another project within the next year or so, we are going to purchase a 2000+ Camaro and we want to squeeze 500+HP out of it, what we are not certain of is if we are going to use, forced induction and beef up the internals or just stroke it and do a H/C job and other assorted options, this will be a daily driver so I would imagine a supercharger would be the most beneficial, lemme know what you guys think.

Or should I just go for the wholeshot and do all of it

With the LS1, that should be a piece of cake. Shouldn't need forced induction, i think it can be done all N/A.

Not if they want it to be a daily driver. To get the stock cubed LS1 to 500 HP takes a lot. Race heads, the biggest cam, 90mm intake, ALL the bolt-ons, etc....

I recommend a full bolt-on car, then add an ATI ProCharger D1. 8-9 PSI will net the car around 525 RWHP, maybe more.
Of course, you will need a rear-end.

I am also talking about wheel HP numbers. 500 crank HP for an LS1 isn't that difficult. Still takes the best heads and a good sized cam. Mine is around 420-425 crank HP right now, and I am still on the stock heads.

Cheapest route for power though is boost. Supercharger is less cost than a turbo set-up, kinda. The STS Turbo kit isn't expensive. Turbo under the hood is though.

Mr. Lous, what else would you need to break the 500 mark? Where would some new heads put you at?

Re: 4TH Gen boasting 500+HP

i dont see that being hard, most of the guys in my club are running that or more, 450 is really middle of the pack for the group, i have alot of catching up to do. we just finished a 01 ss that dynoed 960 the car is sick. not a daily driver, but he drives it on the street alot, damn thing has that electric exhaust where he kept his stock pipes and they are hooked up to some cut offs, so it's not loud untill he hits the button then its too late he got ya.

That all depends on the heads. Some good flowing heads thathave little distruption in flow would give me a great boost. Maybe to around 450 RWHP with the best heads I could get. With a great tune of course.
500 RWHP with an LS1 N/A is very difficult to achieve. It is do-able, but it takes a TON of work. And by then, the car isn't very much

If I wanted 500 RWHP N/A with the stock LS1, I would need a bigger cam, some GREAT flowing heads, and FAST 90mm throttle body and 90mm intake.
I plan on putting all that stuff on, but not on the LS1. The 402 is getting all that.
Hoping that is all done by the end of this race season.

Re: 4TH Gen boasting 500+HP

the only thing i dont like about big ass cam's is how the car sounds like its gonna cut the hell off when its just idleing. i know it has that classic car muscle car sound but your car sounding like its about to stall aint cool at all. heres the story...u chillen at a red light and this fly shorty rolls up next to u, being the fly camaro guy we all are u speak to her, and she looks at u like how the hell u trying to talk 2 me and your car dont sound right??? im like wtf...unless your into cars and has been around them u wouldnt know any better but to think something is wrong with it...untill u hit the gas and u scream off like woo. the bottom line is i guess if u want 500hp or more your gonna have to give up something.

Re: 4TH Gen boasting 500+HP

I too will be shooting for 500 RWHP N/A without bottle. But I might add something like a 50 shot, to say I have it.

I love that lumpy, bumpy mucle car sound!!! If the girl looks at you weird, rev it to 2000 and see what she says then.

The moral of the story: My camaro makes more torque at the front wheels than your honda does at the crank.[/rice-hate]

Then the idle is set too low. It should have a nice lope, but not completely sound like it will die.
