My firebird was crushed!

Check this out I've been trying to sell my car and I totaled it!

I was driving down I 95 southbound just after the Savannah exit when it started raining. Unfortunately I had the tops out and was trying to make it home.

It just so happened that one of the culverts had stopped up and there was about 7 inches of water in the fast lane. the car in front of me changed lanes about 10 yds before the puddle and left me with a dilemna.

I lightly tapped the brakes before the puddle to knock off about 5 mph but there simply was to much water. the car did an immediate 180 bounced off the guard rail and slid back out onto I 95 up under an 18 wheeler!

The big rig took the entire back off my car! It ripped the rear hatch just like paper and took everything with it. I would have to say GM knows how to build a car to withstand some serious shit. Because after the spinning and parts quit flying I was O.K.

My neck hurt a little the next morning but that was all. As for the car it looks like hell. I'm now waiting to see what the insurance companies are going to give me for my massive hunk of scrap metal!

Re: My firebird was crushed!

I hate reading posts like this. It disappoints me to see yet another bird off the road. Glad to see you're alright though.

Glad you are okay. Get that neck checked out.

This isn't the first time I have heard of a Bird taking more punishment than it should be able to take.
Have you gotten any pics of the damage??

Yeah, the late FireBirds are like tanks. I remember having a similar accident (too much water on the freakin highway) with my 99 T/A. I was driving in the fast lane of Highway 59 (Houston's most busy highway). I got rearended, which sended me spinning across the road, until a cavalier slammed me into the guardrail on the other side. It was scary as hell, but me and my girlfriend were completely unharmed.

Well look on the bright side, you've finally sold your car. Now it's just a wait and see if you get a respectable price for it.

Re: My firebird was crushed!

Hey guys I appreciate the sympathy. I only had a few pics taken with a camera phone but the car was completely unrecognizable. It didn't even look like a car.

I did get an estimate done, but the body shop quit estimating when they reached $8k. They simply told me it was a definite total.

By the way insurance companies suck.

Re: My firebird was crushed!

If the insurance company isn't giving you the full value of the car, then you should either get a lawyer or bargain with them yourself. I got $1500 out of a car I bought for $900 when they wanted to give me $1000 from my insurance company.

Re: My firebird was crushed!

Yeah GM cars can really take a beating I flipped my 01 Grand Am and everyone inside walked away completely unscathed. I've also hit a 6-8" curb dead on in both the GA and TA to avoid an accident w/ no damage. Glad to know that you're ok.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I am confused about the car in your sig. It says Trans Am across the windshield, yet it has a plain Firebird nose on it. Which is it?

No, I believe he has a 99 Firebird. 3.8 V6.. hence the front Firebird bumper.
