Hi
I've got a 1999 caravan. I took it to have a oil leak fixed (it was the oil tray) and when I got it back the airbag light was on! Mechanic swears he did not touch the airbag system and said that he doesnot repair airbags anyway. Very annoying. Anyway, I took the car to the dealer for the clockspring recall, which they did, but the light is still on. I have checked and the rear wiper still works, so it's not that fuse either. Now, if I hold down the trip and reset buttons together, count to ten and then turn the key to the on position and then let go of the buttons and immediately press the trip button again I see the following displayed: 8 55 and then it just cycles between these two numbers. I guess that 8 is an error code? The thing is: what does that mean? Also, how serious is this problem? I understand that the airbag may not deploy in an accident, but can the airbag just deploy for no reason? Am I gonna get it blow up in my face any day now? Thanks for any help that you guys can give. |

Re: 1999 - airbag light on, NOT clockspring, error code 8
Quote:
I found this web site which mentions failure codes and such. The 5-5 would mean End Of Diagnostic Mode. However, there is no signs of the 8. Here is the URL: http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler/ You may be able to find more information to help you out. If you have an Autozone or other national parts franchise they offer to run the OBD2 scanner at no charge and can tell you what the code is from the OBD2 scan and decide how to correct it.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this scan is for an engine light, not the airbag light. Auto Zone says to take it to the dealer. Bummer.
