problems disarming/arming viper 690xv

i have a question about my viper alarm system. it is the 690xv or whatever repsonder with remote start added on. the problem is when i go to arm or disarm the system and unlock the car.

yesterday after i got done at the gym i went to unlock/disarm my car and it would not work. the keychain pager beeped like it was not able to send the signal. my friend suggested that my sunshade was interfering with the antenna (it's mounted by the rear view mear). i have had my sunshade up before and had no problems. the only way i was able to disarm it was by stick then the antenna of the pager up to the windshield right in front of the reciever antenna inside the car. my friend then suggested that the clouds had something to do with it. it was really overcast today where i live, but i don't think that should have anything to do with it. i've heard about the radio frequencies messing it up and stuff but i would never imagine the clouds. i'm thinking i'm going to take it to the shop where i got it installed and ask them about but i would like to know what you all think also.

i noticed today that it will usually arm or disarm if i push the lock/unlock buttons REALLY hard on the transmitter. this makes me think that maybe there is something wrong with the transmitter.

hopefully this all makes sense.

Re: problems disarming/arming viper 690xv

First, I'd check the batteries to the transmittor. Replace those and see if you still have a problem. Next is a question. Is your transmitter white or blue? DEI had a lot of problems with the white transmitters going bad. If the batteries don't solve the problem, then I'd take it back to the place you bought it from, with the receipt, and have them warranty out the transmitter for a new one. The transmitters have a one year warranty on them. If even after the transmitter's been replaced, check the antenna cable and antenna. If there's a break in the cable, that'll cause problems, and I've also seen those antennas up and go bad. It's going to be on of those 3 things. If after all of that it still has problems...pull the brain and send it in for service.

does heat have anything to do with the way an antenna performs?

i've noticed lately that during the middle of the day, it's about 100 here, and then my alarm does not work unless i basically mash the button to the point where my finger hurts. the antenna is located right in front of the rear view mirror.

Typically, hot and cold shouldn't affect that, though it may point to a problem with the brain of the alarm, perhaps a bad solder connection or something of that nature. I'd still try the batteries, replace remote, replace antenna and cable system first, though. Those kinds of things can be difficult to troubleshoot.

so i took my car over to the shop where i got the alarm installed, and just like anything else, when you try to duplicate the problem it never happens...so it made me look like an ass of course...how can i talk to the shop and tell them that the problem is goin on and they actually believe me with out having to replicate the problem...we must have stood outside for 15 minutes pushing the buttons, every time it worked fine. i didn't install the alarm and don't have the first thing to know how to install one.

Yeah... I know that "disease" all too well. Never has a problem when you actually want it *not* to work right. Unfortunately, I can't give you the best answer to make the install shop listen to you. Hell, as an installer for 8 years, I couldn't come up with answers to why stuff didn't seem to work sometimes and work fine others. My best advice is to try to get it to them on a day when it's giving you the most problems. Usually, if you pester them enough, they'll just give in to make you "go away" :P Hopefully, that's not the case and the shop's employees are nicer than that, and they'll do anything to get your system working for you again.

Re: problems disarming/arming viper 690xv

ok, so i'm gettin sick and tired of this ish goin on. it will work for two days, then stop workin then work again. i've been racking my brain tryin to figure out what's the matter. one ludacris idea i have is that, i replace the battery in the remote with one from my friend's house. he kept the batteries in the fridge. i'm wonderin the battery "thawed" out or something and some water vapors got into the remote, possibility?

the second is, maybe i have to reprogram the remote. any thoughts?
