SAFC II and hot wire and cam gears

Is the SR20DET motor equipped with an hot wire air flow meter system?

I'm thinking about buying an APEX'i SAFC II. Apexi says that it will help cure erratic idle (in this case caused by my hks cam gears) as long as the car has a hot-wire afms.

Also, does anyone have any tips on good settings for the SAFC? I'm thinking about having my friends at Vishnu Tuning take care of it.

My cam gears are ill tuned. I think I need to advance the timing on the intake cam and retard it on the exhaust. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks =)

Re: SAFC II and hot wire and cam gears

Yes, SR20s use hotwire MAFSs.

Yes the SAFC and SAFCII have Dec. air settings to stop the stalling associated with Hotwire MAFS EFI systems.

You need some kind of timing and linear O2 reading to tune the SAFC appropriately. Trying without at least linear O2 readings is kinda like crossing the interstate blindfolded. you may make it, but prolly not....

My suggestion for cam gears.... set them to stock settings....

personally i say let the shop take care of it, especially if you're not sure because if you do it and mess up then you might break something then have to let them tune it anyways

plus a shop will get it tuned alot better, then the average person can

Is the information that is given on the SAFC not enough to tune it? I was talking to some guys about it and they just suggested having the Vishnu owner take care of the tuning. He would basically be finding the best air/fuel ratio. He would just mess around with it for a while till he got it right.

As for the cam gears, they are at stock but they need to be adjusted. The cams aren't creating a steady idle. It's still too sloppy, they can't be running efficiently.

Yea, they do the exact same thing any basic skilled tuner will do. Adjust, run, record data, try a little more or little less fuel until they find the right AF ratio. I say fuck having a shop tune my car. Just let me use your dyno for an hour and I'll be on my way. But thats me. Do as you will.

You were saying something about the linear O2 reading. Is that a measurement outside of the abilities of the SAFC?

Re: SAFC II and hot wire and cam gears

Linear O2 reading means get a wideband O2 reading. No the SAFC cannot do that too.
