Cool For the guitar players out there...

So how many of you actually play guitar and what style of guitar do you play like Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Stuff? What kind of guitar do you have?

I'm learning how to play guitar and I'm trying to learn Stevie Ray Vaughan style of guitar and I want to play the Blues...

I have a Squire Strat from the Strat Pack from Guitar Center...

Re: For the guitar players out there...

I play an electric Peavy Patriot, which I want to sell end get an acoustic. I play country, with a little rock mixed in. Shooter Jennings and Big and Rich stuff.

I'm not that good, as I just picked it up after a few years of neglecting the guitar.

Anyone wants to make an offer on the Patriot, PM me.

Re: For the guitar players out there...

I play a hot rodded Fat Strat (electric) and a solid top cutaway Takamine (acoustic). I play a LOT of rock and blues, and am starting to get more into jazz/funk.

Re: For the guitar players out there...

I have an american standard strat, alvarez acoustic, and takamine classical that is older than i am.

I play a variety of stuff, on the electric i like to play more bluesey stuff, clapton, allman brothers, etc.
On the acoustic I bring it around for the drunken nights playing songs that are fun to sing to, a bunch of southern rock like skynyrd or allman brothers or dylan, oar, stuff of that sort.
Then I play classical.... i love to sit around and jam out with some bach...nothing like it.

Wink Re: For the guitar players out there...

Ibanez makes good bass' for the $. I got mine new for under $300 and never regretted it. Active pickups are great for bass but on guitar, I think you have to love a fat humbucker sound to get them. If your into blues/ Jazz styles you will probably want a quality single coil pickup. I have a split-coil Seymore Duncan in my Jap-Strat and love it. I also have a rebuilt Epiphone SG copy, and a Takamine acoustic.
Been at it for 16years but only seriously for about 5. Used to play Hardcore punk but I've mellowed considerably. Lessons in Jazz and Classical Theory. Stopped playing altogether about 3 years ago.

If you seriously want to learn, Memorize your five scale patterns, learn your notes up and down the fretboard. Learn to build chords with 7ths then learn to arpegiate them. Once you learn all that, forget the technical shit and put your soul in it! Seen too many musicians waste away to complexity. You started playing because you have passion. Don't forget that!

I'm sure you don't need to hear it from me, but hell, I ain't busted out the soap box in awhile.

Re: For the guitar players out there...

ive got several guitars, but my pride and joy is my seagull acoustic. beautiful guitar. ive been playing for 8 years, and i still have no intention of ever buying another guitar. its perfect.

as for what i play. i enjoy the folkier side of things (bob dylan, jim croce, etc) when i play, which is odd because i listen to hardcore and punk mainly.

though i do pick up the fender strat and wail a little blues and rock when im feeling loud.

Re: For the guitar players out there...

When I get really good, I'm going to buy my dream uitar, An American made Fender Strat... I love fenders, they are my favorite guitar... 3 single coil pickups and all the best wood and stuff america has to offer for that guitar...

I love the blues guitar style and it is just your soul playing it and I'm messing around and trying ot make up a blues song and have been playing some of the greatest blues legends stuff for awhile like SRV songs and others...

I can't wait til I get good and can really play... I will be an awesome guitarist in the future and I try to play at least every day for a couple of hours...

Re: For the guitar players out there...

also challange you self, don't just stick to the easy shit.....and make up your own songs.

get into the habbit of up and down strokes. its so much easyer to play faster.
do exercises that involve your pinky (and all others, duh) and play standing up (this sounds stupid but if u ever get in a band......u get the point) its way different than sitting down.
it might sound like a lot now but it'll be second nature in no time at all
