Air compressor purchase questions??

What aircompressoor types does everybody use. At the local auto store they have air compressors for about $100 (australian, $70us roughly) It isnt the small type ones u see at hobby shops. Would these still work with car models and airbrushing? or for car models are you basically restricted to using those small ones? whats the difference between the two??

Re: Air compressor purchase questions??

They are technically the same, but while hobby compressors are usually much smaller and quieter, they don't offer the PSI of the larger compressors, and are more expensive.

The larger compressor will work just fine, if you add a water trap and regulator (Get a hobby-grade one that has a lower, finer PSI range).

Re: Air compressor purchase questions??

I use a couple heavy duty compressors with a fine moisture trap at the compressor, and at the the end of the airbrush hose.

Re: Air compressor purchase questions??

Is it a tire pump or an air compressor (I just noticed the auto parts store reference)? If it's the little plastic tire pumps I don't think it will work too well. If it looks like this, it will be OK:
