How do I drain the torque converter on my '90?

Hello Everyone!

Just bought a 1990 Town Car and my Haynes manual doesn't give proper instructions on how to drain the torque converter. It says to remove a rubber plug on the housing. This transmission doesn't have the rubber plug...
Does anyone know how this torque converter should be drained?

Thank you and Ta.

In the bottom of the bell housing is a rubber plug (between the oil pan and the transmission pan) remove the plug. You will see the torque converter, you will probably have to rotate the engine until you see the drain plug for the torque converter. It will take a long time to drain so let it sit.

sefi5.0,

Thanks for the try, but please reread my post. There isn't a "rubber plug (between the oil pan and the transmission pan)" on this specific car.

I posted the same question on another awesome automotive forum called http://www.bobistheoilguy.com, and this is the response I received:

Quote:
There is no way, short of pulling the trans out and removing the converter. The AODE/4R70W had the converter drain plug, your trans is the AOD.
It looks like it's only possible to change out roughly 4 litres of fluid at a time with this transmission.

Cheers!

You are absolutely right. I gave directions for an AODE transmission. Thats what happens when you read too fast. There is a way to drain the torque convertor in an AOD transmission. I have a 91 Grand Marquis with that transmission in it so I went out today and put it in the air so that I could photograph the drain plug. To get to it (the drain plug) remove the inspection cover on the front of the bell housing and rotate the engine until you see the drain plug in the front of the convertor (see photo http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...hp?photo=44679 )The plug is orange in the photo. Let me know if this helps.
