catalytic converter question

I live in Canada, and it is still legal to drive around with out the cat. So I was planning on taking it out until someone told me that it would screw with the O2
sensor. Is this true? Is there anyone out there who has tryed removing their cat?

It's illegal anywhere w/ emissions. Don't remove your cat. It makes your exhaust sound bad and you gain like 1hp max. yeah, it'll mess up the O2 sensor. Be a bit responsible and get a highflow cat if its that big of a deal.

On OBD2 cars, yes it'll send a Check Engine light.

best pipe I've found is from powercore its a racing cat 129.99 you can buy it with the O2 hole taped so all you do is replace the stock unit and your done

if your running a EX with just a intake and exhuast and no major engine work then I would leave the cat becuase it will help but not enough to be worth while I would put that money elsewhere

I have myself have a racing cat and it made a big power gain but my reasons is becuase my stock cat was 8 years old and made for a 102BHP engine with a tiny exhuast/cat

I have a B16A with 2.5" catback exhuast 4-2-1 header and a cold air intake and 62MM throttle body adding a racing cat made a BIG gain in power for me
but if I still had my DX engine I don't think I would have seen any gains other then a funky smell

Jeff

Why can't I just take the cat out and put the O2 sensor in the replacement pipe. I don't see how this would mess with the engine light or the timing since the O2 is upstream from the cat. I want to do this because I have a resonator in my cat-back, so my exhast is pretty quiet, and I want a louder exhast with a little extra hp. Removing the cat seems like the most logical step since I want to keep the resonator. Am I all wrong here or what?

If you wanted loud you shoulda bought an aftermarket exhaust w/o a resonator. If you want a very cheap loud, just shoot your muffler with a shotgun. Or sell your exhaust and buy a new louder one. I'm just not an advocate of getting rid of the cat.

oh you could put the o2 sensor in the new test pipe but unfortunatly it will not return the same value it would if the cat was there thus giving you a CEL for a malfunctioning cat. i think apexi has a thing that sends back the right voltage for the secondary o2 sensor so you can remove the cat but like jon said its worthless, if you dont a much larger flow that is being bottlenecked by the cat then you arent gonna get anything or very little at that.
