found broken ac vac line but no vaccume

I found the broken line on my 98 astro which seems to be a common problem. But when I fixed the line and reattached it nothing happened. Upon reinspection I found there was no suction at the 3-way fitting.Help please.

there must be a leak at one of the other two hoses, my guess would be at the manifold end of the hose assembly. Could be a crack in the plastic "T" fitting where the three hoses come together as well.

Question Re: found broken ac vac line but no vaccume

Hi, I have an 98 Astro van which sounds like it has the same problem. My A/C & Heater blower works fine but no air comes out out the vent. It sounds like it might be related to the vaccum mentioned previously.

Is there a way that I can check this, also what is involved in getting it fixed.

thanks

Re: found broken ac vac line but no vaccume

The vaccuum hose controls the dampers in the AC ducts. You can certainly purchase a vacuum testing gage. Or, you can start pulling hoses, one end at a time. On the rubber hoses, the most common culprit I've found are splits in the end of the hose. Sometimes these splits are on the inside of the hose and not detectable with the hose on the fitting. For the hard plastic hoses I've usually found a chafed hole in the plastic tubing. The plastic hoses will get brittle over time as well and develop cracks.

On my van, the hose to the AC vacuum resevoir connects to a T fitting. Check the fitting and the other hoses attached to it. If you had a vacuum leak elsewhere, your engine would be running like crud and you'd probably have another post going on the forum. So, I'd say the problem is probably pretty localized.
One last thought, the vacuum resevoir might have a leak as well.

Finding the leak is the hardest part. Vaccum hose is cheap.
