I Failed My Smog Test
i have a 1985 Ford Escort L Station Wagon 1.6 Liter 2BBL ENGINE Vin. 4
everything was fine execpt the emission's test? well i have recently had a tune-up changing battery, oil change, air filter, spark plugs, breather filter, also put some engine and transmission treatments. is der any suguestions wat the problem is?

May have a bad catalytic converter especially since both Hydrocarbons and CO are so far out of specifications. If you have the original converter the I would say it is time to replace it.

I talked to my uncle(a mechanic) and he said i need to change my o2 sensor and he said i need to buy a carborator cleaner to clean it out..... and i ask him what about a catalystic converter and he said since u have a carborater car its not that because your NO charts are pretty good so i need more opinions?

I had a hell of a time with my '85 Ranger. Turned out that the 'guts' of the catylitic converter were blown out and that had clogged the muffler. A technician at Meineke figured it out. He dropped the inlet on the convertor and showed me it was empty. He fixed it and I passed with flying colors. Even though I had over 300,000 miles on it
