some stuff wrong help please

ive got a 74 super beetle with autostick but shifts slow any suggestions and sometimes the caar starts and sometimes it doesnt i dont know whats wrong but if i jump it it works even though my battery is brand new i think it might be my starter

Could be the starter, what are the symptoms when it doesn't start? does it turn over? Or nothing happens when you turn the key? Could also be the pilot jet on the carb, need more info...

As for the autostick, make sure the vacuum lines are hooked up and have no holes.

ummm it doesnt even turn over just hear one click coming from the back and nothing. its weird because sometimes it will work then like 30 minutes later it wont then like if u try for a while it will work again

Look in this forum for a thread titled "Starting Problems", I think on the second page, there's some good info there about old wiring and getting it to turn over with a screwdriver under the car. Check that out and see if it helps.

Its either ur battery terminals are not tight, the wiring is bad, or one of the wires are not attached properly on the starter. its most likely the wiring. Put a wire from the + part of the battery to the positive part of the starter and it should crank over, if it doesnt then ur starter is bad. or ur battery is dead
