95 Escort Questions

Hey, I want to try to make my escort fast enough to beat the import crap that is out there. Any one know of any good sites/parts I could look at. What's the biggest motor I can put in it? Stuff like that.

Hey dude - you have a 10 year old 88hp economy car. It is made in Mexico from mainly Mazda parts. If you want to go fast, buy a real car!

Re: 95 Escort Questions

These guys have a point. However you can still "play" w/ this car, depending on a few things...
Which motor? 1.9 or 1.8? Auto or 5 speed?
the 88 hp figure is for the 1.9l w/ auto.. and yep that is one sluggish beast. If you have a 5spd at least its not so bad, you can control teh RPMs.
Yer best best is to look into openin the exhaust (header, wider pipe, maybe 2.25"?) and also the intake, cut some holesi n the box, or switch to a cone or full CAI system. Keep in mind (regardless of what you hear folks say) more air IN is pointless unless oyu can get more ait OUT also...

You're thinking like me. I removed all of the ducting going to the air filter. Then I took a 2 and a half inch hole saw and cut two more holes in the base of the air cleaner housing.

Later, I went to AutoZone and bought a Turbo II muffler for $18.99. It is 2 inch. Didn't cost too much.
