CJ5 Exhaust Headache

I have a 1980 CJ5 with AMC 304 Bored Edlebrock top-end, hedman headers and dual pipes straight back. Verytime I drive it I smell like gas afterwords...not too mention I smell the exhaust while driving. Any suggestions?

Re: CJ5 Exhaust Headache

Sounds like 2 different issues; the gas leaking and the exhaust leaking. Hope they're not in the same place.

I'd get a buddy to look/listen under the hood for the exhaust leak while you put the engine under a little bit of a load. I'd think it would likely be near the heads, but you may have to trace it back; if there's no leak forward then you may be getting some swirl from the pipes out back.

Gas leak I would check the fuel line, gas cap, carb and fuel filter and pump.

Hope that helps....
