Sunfire fuel problem

I have a sunfire with a fuel problem I've checked the fuel flow from the pump and there is no fuel. I had my son turn the ignition while I listened for the pump and there was no sound from the gas tank so re replaced the pump. The problem is we are still not getting fuel pumped to the engine the pump will not turn on. We have replace the fuse, and relay. What else could it be?

Re: Sunfire fuel problem

Check the ground wire to the fuel pump and also check the oil pressure switch to make sure it has not gone bad. There is a cutoff in the oil pressure sending unit that will shut off the fuel pump when the pressure drops too low. One question, is the security light on? If so you may need to reset the system as it will shut off the fuel supply.

The security light goes on when I turn the key but It goes off if I don't try and crank the car once I fully turn the key to crank the car it comes back on. Where is the oil pressure switch located.

Thanks for the help we've been racking our brains trying to get this car started for two weeks.

Re: Sunfire fuel problem

This switch is located just above the oil filter and looks like a small round can. It is not hard or expensive to replace.

I would have to believe that the problem you are having is due to the security system since you stated the light comes on. If you have two factory keys try the other one. Sometimes that will solve the entire problem. GM is reluctant to say anything about this stupid system, it works well when it works but it can cause a lot of problems when it goes bad.

Thanks I'll give it a try. I've also put a call in to the local Pontiac dealer to see if I can get the security system reset. I'll let you know the outcome after checking the security stystem and oil pressure switch.

Thanks for the help. We played around with it for a while and found that there is a box next to the fuse box not shure what it's called but if we jiggled the wires a bit the fuel pump would start. Turns out that the wires were lose.
