2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

Purchased a 2001 Windstar with the keyless entry, has a keypad on the drivers door. Anyone know where to find the factory code so I can program it with my own? I have heard it is taped to the computer module, where is the computer module located on this vehicle?

Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

Wow....I happen to have the exact same problem......just purchased a 2001 SE and have been looking for this code to reprogram the darn thing....please anyone out there. I dont have the owners manual either and need to know which fuse goes with what as the rightside power window is not operating. Regarding the programing of keys...why is it that if I have the second key, I can program the third myself?

Thx
Richard

There should have be some kind of post card looking thing with the owners manual that will have the door pad code.
Of course when I got my used Windstar that card was gone, so what I did was take it to the dealer they pulled the door code from the computer for a little under $10.

Been there...done that....the local Ford dealer is asking $75!!!! I guess I'll wait for someone who could specify where to find the 5 digit code within the vehicle panels or computer box.

Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

OK, looked behind the panel below the center console, nothing there. There are several "computer modules", which one is the right one? and is it a sticker with a code on it, or a scrap piece of paper taped on the thing? Why do they make things so darn difficult???

Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

Behind that panel below the dash is where the module should be. It's bolted to the backside of the brace. If you have a mirror and can read backwards, the code should be on a white sticker attached to it, or you might have to unbolt it if the sticker is blocked by the brace. On my '01, the sticker was gone. I haven't gone to the dealer yet. I wish I could get it for $10 though. One dealer said it'd be $130 to do it. After writing to FoMoCo, they said most dealers charge around $40.

Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

Broke down and had the local ford dealer get the code for me. Since I was having the tranny flushed and refilled, I think they gave me a price break. Only charged me $35.00 (but then $250.00 for the tranny flush!!)

Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

in the windstar van (my 2003 at least) there is a sticker under one of the taillight fixtures. it will have the factory code on it, but i doubt it will have any directions to program your own. screw the dealers they're a PITA anyway.

I assume you mean in the body. I took out the tails in mine and found no stickers. There were a couple ON the taillights, but they looked like date codes.

Yes, after 2 years, I'm still too cheap to go have it read.

Most tranny flush are around 156.00 at most dealers. 99.00 to 100.00 at local shops although I would question there ATF fluid they use. Wrong one causes problems.. As For the code on the freestar, by the fuse panel just above it there is a control module with a barcode type sticker. Last 5 numbers are the code to the door keypad. Maybe this will help if you jot down the last five numbers on some stickers that you find on the Windstar. Dont know if this works on Windstars but it may help.. I needed a flash light to hunt mine down on the Freestar in full sunny after noon. It was tight even with the seat pushed all the way back because they tried to hide it. And the numbers were very small. So it will take some hard looking. Hope this helps,Gary

Smile Re: 2001 Windstar keyless entry door keypad

KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM
With the keyless entry keypad, you can:
˛ lock or unlock the vehicle doors without using the key.
Your vehicle has a factory set 5 digit code that operates the keyless entry
system. You can also program your own 5 digit personal entry code. The
factory-set code is located:
˛ on the owner’s wallet card in the glove compartment
˛ taped to the computer module
˛ or at your dealer.
When pressing the controls on the keyless entry keypad, press the
middle of the controls to ensure a good activation.
Programming your own personal entry code
To program your own code:
1. Enter factory set code (keypad will illuminate when pressed).
2. Press 1/2 control within five
seconds of step 1.
3. Enter your personal 5 digit code.
Enter each digit within five seconds
of previous one.
Do not set a code that includes five of the same number or presents them
in sequential order. Thieves can easily figure out these types of codes.
Your personal code does not replace the permanent code that the
dealership gave you. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. If a
second personal code is entered, the module will erase it in favor of the
new code.
If you wish to erase your personal code, use the following instructions:
1. Enter factory set code.
2. Press 1/2 control within five
seconds of step one.
3. Press 1/2 control and hold for 2
seconds.
The system will now only respond
to the factory set code.

This is out of the owners manual!!!

Have the tag in the book but the last digit is an X. What the heck is an X on the key pad?
