when did transaxle change?

I have been researching Windstars online. We had a 2002 that we loved until another person sideswiped us last week. I knew before we bought the 02 that there were transaxle weaknesses with the Fords. Now, we're looking at replacing it, and was wondering if the later models (like ours) had a better transaxle. Anyone who knows, please post! Thanks.

Re: when did transaxle change?

Switch from the AX4S to AX4N was in the 2001 model year.

I noticed that you have a 2000 SEL. Have you had transaxle issues yet?

Re: when did transaxle change?

No, but I bought it with 45k on it so I don't know if there were any prior. I've since dropped the pan, replaced the filter and added a drain plug to the pan. I drain the pan and add fluid every other oil change.
