2000 Windstar 3.8L Air Cond

Experts,

Im still looking for any recommendations on my air cond problem. A/C is cold but load on engine seems a little more than expected and it seems to cause the shifting to be a little slower. I get a "Whhiirrr" sound (not grinding) while accelerating. Has anybody had this type of problem. A/C has been properly charged recently. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Don't know about the additional load problem, but my 2000 with the 3.8 also produces the sound that you describe. The on-board computer is supposed to adjust the rpm to compensate for the compressor load each time it cycles on and off.
