Question Best car for $3,600???

Im looking for another car for around 3,600.

What do you think is the best all around (acceleration/handling/reliability) car i could get as a daily driver.

The reason im spending such little money is that im looking for a car that i can abuse on the backroads. Me and my friends race on these windy hill roads and i want to be able to beat them.

All wheel drive would be good but is not a must.

Thanks ahead of time,
-nate

If you look hard enough you could find yourself a nice 92+ model MR2 turbo. I believe they are rated at 200hp stock, not to sure. But another car i would consider would be an 88-91 RX-7 FC.These cars have great power and are light compared to the FD.

Well I only paid $3,000 for my car and it can do 0-60 in the mid sixes, also corners damn good. This is if you want a domestic car, and if you can find one.

I think it'd be really hard to find a MKII MR2 turbo in that price range. The FC RX-7 is a good idea, and there's always the MKI MR2 Supercharged.

yeah, an MR2 is gonna be almost impossible to find in good condition(i.e. running) for that little. Same for an FC too, cause you might find a decent car for that much, but it'll need another $1500 or so for an engine rebuild. RX-7's are not something to be used as a daily driver unless they're your main car and you can drop alot of money into maintenance.

I'd suggest looking for either a 4WD protege from like 91, or a 4WD celica from like 89 or 90. They're both 4WD, rally suspension equipped, turbo chraged and just all around good handling cars.

The Protege you'd want would be either a GT-X, which is the turbo charged, 4WD sedan model, or the GT-R, which is the hatchback version.

The celica youd want would be the GT-4

I'd agree with that for turbo FCs, but not so much for the n/a models. Plus, they're as old as 1986, so they can be found pretty cheap.

Yeah, You can tell the GTC by a monochrome grill and it will say on the side GTC. I think they only made like 200 89 GTC Turbo II models in hard tops. Now telling the turbo I from the turbo II, simple, turbo I auto, turbo II stick.

Ok , if i were to do such thing in europe , i could get a lancia delta integrale , with the stock 190 hp turbo and 4WD , for like 2 - 2.5 k $ , and it's like a street legal rally car , i could also get an original 83 audi urquattro with 250 hp stock , only 80.000 Km , you could make it 400 or more without much effort... And it's also almost a rally car... Then i would also look at other audis , like the audi coupe 20V quattro , i could get em like 2000$ and they have 170 hp and one of the best 4WD systems out there... I could also get a BMW 325ix with 4WD and low milage for 2k$... I could get a 4x4 6-speed opel calibra with 2.0 turbo engine... I could find a ford sierra cosworth with 205 hp and 4WD.... And maybe a syncro (4WD) VW golf or passat....

Also if not 4WD , then get a porsche 944 , in stock form it outhandles almost every other stock car , and modded , it's almost unbeatable when the driver is good... And it's cheap and quite easy to mod and mantain....

Hey, a GTS would be a great car, but they aren't exactly the easiest things to come by

i looked in the Auto Trader for New York State and there was a 1986 Supra for 2,100 bucks... and it didn't look in that bad of condition... and they aren't bad cars either.

check it out if ya can or desire to do so

ever considered a 240sx? cheap, handles good... rwd and good for future swaps or turbos. and way easier to find at that price range compared to the other imports mentioned above... altho i did see a hachi rocku in the paper the other day for $3,500 with over 100,000 miles on it already... still tempting.
