Re: shifter knob removal
I don't know if the 93 is the same as a 95-97 but maybe this will help. The O/D switch is removed by gently prying between the switch housing and the gearshift lever knob. There is a u shaped retaining clip on the front side of the gear shift knob that has to come out. If you put the shift lever all the way back it will be easier to see the slot that it is in. After removing the clip, push in the release button (the button you have to push when moving the selector back and forth) and then pull up on the gear shift knob.

Re: shifter knob removal
Actually, the '93 doesn't have the overdrive switch. I used to have one. All you do to get the shifter knob off is press in on the thumb-switch on the side of the shifter knob (as far in as you can go), then pull straight up. If it's never been off before, it'll be stiff, but just keep pulling. It may help to turn the shifter knob VERY SLIGHTLY while pulling up on it.

I'm trying to replace one on a 94 T-Bird, but the new one doesn't want to go down all the way so that I can get the clip back in.
Is there a trick to this? Thanks |

Re: shifter knob removal
I would try pushing the shifter button in and pushing down. Then release. If it still isn't down all the way, you can do what I did on mine: give it a good firm smack on the top of the shifter to get it on the rest of the way.

Patience, patience, patience. If it don't wanna go dont make it, figure out why it don't.
